Successful general-practice law firm (real estate law; litigation; matrimonial; municipal law; corporate and business law; wills, trusts, and estates) seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our team in our Columbia County office.
Experience in litigation, estates, and guardianship is mandatory.
Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for the coordination of all the details before, during and after trial.
The successful candidate will be able to provide assistance during all phases of the litigation process including conducting interviews, legal research, and document filing.
The ideal candidate is extremely empathetic and capable of offering the highest level of service to our clientele.
Professionalism and teamwork are prized, so the best candidate works well with attorneys, co-workers, clients and their allied advisors, such as accountants and financial planners, as well as the court.
Conducting pre-claim investigation, legal research and initial case assessments Drafting pleadings, motions and appellate documents and filing them with the court Performing administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics etc) All facets of trust and probate administration, including meeting with clients, trustees and family members Communicating with beneficiaries Drafting correspondence and legal documents Preparing deeds, asset spreadsheets and probate pleadings Reviewing bank statements Notarizing documents Organizing and maintaining client files
Qualifications:
Skills required:
Proficient in either Google Docs and Google Sheets and Microsoft Office, telephone and general business office equipment; Must be self-motivated, work well independently, work well under pressure and time constraints, work well with co-workers.
Minimum of 2 years (preferably 3-5 years) solid trust & estate and litigation experience Highly proactive with attention to detail, dependable, and extremely organized Excellent math and computer skills Excellent problem solving and analytical skills Excellent proofreading skills and clear and concise communication skills Knowledge of Probate process and rules This advertisement is not a binding contract of employment.
